Alice (Milla Jovovich) continues her journey into the ever gloomy world of viral outbreaks and undead cannibalism.
In what I hope to be the last installment of the RE movie franchise, Resident Evil : Afterlife continues with its total disregard for the games fans and spurts out yet another depressing 90 minutes. Almost from the word go you will realize this movie was going to be a bit of a joke, the opening scene has you watching 10 Alice clones running through Umbrella’s building.
Despite the huge following the movie franchise has I can’t help but feel robbed at the fact the real game fans are being pushed aside for a bunch of Hollywood loving fanboys. The games are able to scare you witless everytime yet a multi million dollar budgeted Hollywood blockbuster couldn’t keep me awake for the full duration. I kept expecting something big to happen, a new story plot or something but I was left waiting up until I dozed off. The action scenes are quite obviously the main focus of the movie with enough bullets and slow mo effects to make Keanu Reeves jealous but sadly they fail to deliver on almost all levels of the choreography. I’ve yet to speak to anyone that fully enjoyed the movie, I don’t understand why the games companies allow the movies to be developed so far off from what they’re supposed to be based on. Umbrella, zombies and dead stuff, that is all it has in common with the games.
The plot is predictable, the story is disappointing and the action scenes are just plain meh. Personally, I enjoyed the opening cinematic of Resident Evil 1 more than I have any of the movies.
